Crop circles became popular in the early 1990s when two Englishmen had revealed that they were behind the mysterious shapes popping in Southern England for the last 15 years. They are formed of complex designs drawn in corn, barley or wheat fields. They are flat areas which are formed into a particular shape visible from above and also spanning large areas.
A lot of speculations exist about the origin of crop circles ranging from complete hoaxes to alien invasion theories. The truth is that no one is absolutely sure about their origin. Many accounts of crop circles findings go back to the 19th century. This makes on believe that their existence has somehow nothing or little to do with humans. Crop circles are found in many countries across the world but there is an extraordinary concentration in certain parts of England.
Crop circles have different forms and mostly are a patchwork of different sized circles. Their smooth and majestic looks give a supernatural appearance in the human mind. However, possible suggest that there is nothing more involved than few ropes, a board and a ladder.
Crop circles surfaced in the news in 1991 and are credited with Dave Chorley and Doug Bower as the makers of multiple creations in the south of England. They claimed that they crafted crop circles in southern England for the last 15 years in quest for fame.
Many groups formed across the world to learn the skill and develop new techniques. These events established the possibility for humans to make crop circles while shedding some light on the origins of some. However, it did not prove that all of the crop circles were made by man.
A theory surfaced in the early 19th century that crop circles has something to do with electrical activities during thunderstorms. Several accounts suggest that thunderstorms caused damage to certain fields and left circular shapes. However, there is no proper scientific research to prove the theory but it has not been completely ignored.
There have also been possible links to extraterrestrial activities that were inevitable flourished since many years. The major argument to support the opinion is regarding the reports of UFO sightings near sites of crop circles. These varied theories include UFO landings, messages from extraterrestrial beings or physical representation of human consciousness.
Variety of independent researchers has claimed to prove the non-human origin of certain crop circles but without showing recognition. Conspiracy theories on part of the government are also extensively mentioned for making lack of solid evidence to prove such theories.
Crop circles continue to charm people because of their hidden mystery. Its presence has also become a hallmark in pop culture, inspiring tourism and TV shows and movies showing new interpretations to the people.
